New google phones? and more than one?

So before the iPhone launch there was already starting to be speculation of google getting into the mobile phone industry.  How much can they revolutionize the mobile phone industry with a new phone?

“According to anonymous sources, Google has multiple phone prototypes and envisions a day in which mobile phones will be ad-supported thanks to services such as those Google provides.”

“Google’s approach is two-pronged, in that the company is working on its own devices, but is also working on a set of technical specifications and applications to be shared by multiple mobile devices. Google will allow manufacturers to use their prototype designs or make their own. Google’s chief interest, clearly, is getting its applications on phones. Mobile device versions of Google Maps, Google Talk, and even Gmail are already popular, and the company is working on a web browser as well.”

Both quotes are from ars technica.  Of course it will be very interesting to see what google has to bring to the table.  I love gmail on my blackberry and think it would be awesome to have some new great apps from google.  Google Maps has also already been wildy popular.  In my opinion the way it is looking now, is that flash will need to be the streamlined on some higher end phones to allow viewing of web videos and should also allow you to do a lot more from your phone.
