Motorola recently announced the next line of cell phones that will utilize the Android platform: Motorola Cliq. Besides Android, this handset will also take advantage of MOTOBLUR which is a synching app. It will sync up your posts, messages, photos, with your social networking platforms: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and your email accounts.

The essence of everything involving the Motorola Cliq is MOTOBLUR. You can mix and match apps and widgets, using those synced with MOTOBLUR or use ones you find on the Android Market. There’s also pre-loaded apps developed by Google.

Here are a list of features you can look to find with the Motorola Cliq:

- Full HTML Browser
- 3G compatibility
- 5 megapixel camera (auto focus)
- Access to photo sharing sites
- YouTube support
- QWERT keyboard

Motorola is really pushing the Cliq as a ’social phone’, so for those who use their handsets for more than just phone communication this might be worth looking into.

The Motorola Cliq is going to be available Q4 2009, through T-Mobile.

Not much is growing by 900% these days (unless it’s the national deficit). However, according to predictions from Strategy Analytics, the Google Android could be growing by just that much over the next couple of years.

Everyone knows that Google is insanely popular—almost to the point of being obnoxious. I send and receive e-mails through Google, organize my calendar on Google, save important documents on Google, arrange my task lists on Google, read my RSS feeds through Google, check my news on Google, do every single Internet search on Google, etc., etc., ad nauseum. Google = domination.

But until recently, the Android phone hasn’t made the massive cannonball splash that Google is accustomed to making. But it could be coming… Tom Kang, one of the chief analysts at Strategy Analytics, explained that “Android is now in a good position to become a top-tier player in smart phones over the next two to three years.”

The question you are probably asking is “how?” Good question. After all, isn’t the iPhone the greatest thing since sliced bread? And what was that news recently about the Blackberry Curve outselling the iPhone? And, oh, isn’t there a new Palm Pre being released soon? Strangely, I don’t hear “T-Mobile G1” in that list, nor any Android-based smartphones for that matter.

Yet already, we can see signs of an uptick in the Android’s market base. Like all things Google, it is getting bigger. In several strokes of genius, the Android is the perfect device for cloud computing, has an appealing open source platform, and big guys like Motorola, Samsung, Vodafone, and, T Mobile are already swarming over it, sure to enhance its popularity. Oh, and did we mention that it is based on a Google operating system?

Tech prophets foresee the platform being the foundation for a litany of other wireless services. So far, it is a pretty good smartphone platform. Time will tell whether or not it succeeds beyond that. But, judging by the gnashing violence of the current smartphone market, if it succeeds, it will have won a major battle.

But, Google is used to doing that.

Aren’t they?

Driving the social web community phenomena further is Wizi; this web 2.0 application was developed using the very popular Android platform for cell phone application developers. The innovation here is being able to know the location of your friends at any given time and interact directly as you do on facebook. Wizi uses the phone’s GPS ability (if that is present on the phone) to define the exact location of anyone in your group. The phone cellID is used to identify you to another Wizi user, and Wi-Fi does the rest.

The cell phone market is stretching out its vast technology reach with developers using the Android SDK to create sets of great applications like this. While you can have facebook send messages and photos to your cell phone, Wizi has much more of a mobile social community connection making it more flexible as people carry their phones around all day. The GPS ability is not required unless you want live views of your friends. For example, you can use it to obtain directions to your friend’s location.

Any routes that you post can be sent to people via twitter, or email, from your cellular. You can also send notes or photos to twitter or facebook. Do you have an active blog? If you find yourself on the road and want to update your blog with a photo, you can upload the files. By combining sharing information with a tracking facility, this new and amazing free android application is surely set to take the cell phone market by storm.

No need to worry about this being intrusive in any way, just like on facebook, only your active friends can seek you out. The application needs to be actually running, so just turn it off if you don’t wish to be connected. Also, if you want to leave it running, decide who gets permission to ‘see’ you from your account. So, privacy is still fine and you don’t have to reveal your actual location.

Networks are now catering for some staggering applications like this sturdy addition to the world of web 2.0. Speed is increasing all the time as is bandwidth allowance to networks from the top ISPs. This is allowing for increased weight on networks with applications like Wizi. What’s more, Wizi is very user-friendly; there is no learning curve attached to the application. You will be up and running in minutes.

Go to http://wizi.com/download/ for more details on compatibility for various models. Or, if you want go straight to downloading Wizi, visit get.wizi.com from your cell phone.

So, where are your friends right now?

Have fun in cellular space!

In a post to the Google Mobile blog this morning, Google Mobile Engineer Joanna KcKinley announced the next generation of mobile Gmail. Starting today, the popular webmail service has a cutting-edge mobile interface that’s sure to turn some heads.

The new finger-friendly interface has been redone from the ground up. Google has added improvements like better labels, an easier search function, and a “floaty bar” that enables easy selection of multiple messages. The entire interface is more than just user-friendly — it’s also technically advanced, taking advantage of emerging Web technologies like HTML5 and Google Gears.

Gmail’s remade interface is clean and easy to use. It can also be much more convenient than using the iPhone’s built-in Mail program. Links in E-mails open a new Safari tab, rather than launching a new application, making switching between E-mail and Web browsing much easier. On the iPhone Google is using Safari’s native database storage format to cache messages for offline viewing, so E-mails can be always accessible even the a network isn’t. On Android the new Gmail uses Gears to store messages for offline use.

Any Android device or iPhone/iPod touch (OS 2.2.1 or above) should be able to view the new interface by visiting gmail.com. Google Apps users can visit mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.

Since both the iPhone and Android use a WebKit-based browser, a large chunk of the rich mobile Web is essentially a stable target. The fact that WebKit features such fantastic HTML5 support bodes well for the new spec — if phone developers can see the light, widespread desktop adoption can’t be far behind.

“Today at Google’s I/O conference, a live demonstration of a phone running the Android platform showed off some of the new mobile operating system’s capabilities. One feature is a user-defined, gesture-based unlock capability. Users can create a password using their finger on the screen, and then use that pattern to unlock the phone. It will also have a compass tool that automatically roams with the phone while a user looks at photographic images of a city map. The demonstration took place on a touch screen device, but Google said that Android will also work on devices that use trackballs for navigation. Google said that work on the platform is nearly complete, but would not confirm a date or timeframe when it might be available for consumers.” Phone Scoop
