Palm’s Q4 Sag Is Only the Preparation for Upswing

With all the rave reviews about the Palm Pre, one may be confused as to why Palm faced a hard-hitting fourth quarter, with losses amounting to $105 million. Despite the drastic deficit, stocks rallied on Wall Street, jumping a full 16 percent after the news release from Palm’s investor conference.

The seeming disparity of results is obvious when you realize that the Pre, Palm’s trend-setting new smartphone didn’t hit the market until a full nine days after Palm’s fiscal fourth quarter ended. Once June 6 rolled around and the new Palm Pres hit the market place, the coffers began to refill. Within mere days of the June 6 launch of the Pre, Palm sold nearly 100,000 devices, causing Jon Rubinstein, CEO of the company to comment that he “couldn’t be happier” about Palm’s success. After the launch “sales were the highest of any device in its history,” claims the Wall Street Journal.

The battle is not over for Palm. Though the forecast looks good, Palm must be ready for fierce competition from Apple and Google for its piece of the profit in the already-crowded smartphone market. As Rubinstein prophesied, “We have more to accomplish, but the groundwork is laid for a very promising future here at Palm. Our senior management team is capable, motivated and focused on execution; there is a large group of developers waiting to build great applications for Palm webOS; and we have a new product pipeline that we think will set a standard for the industry.”

Although few are prepared right now to give Palm the hubris of saying that their products have set an industry standard, as Rubinstein anticipates, the company has nonetheless caught the attention of the technology community, and we’re all watching their next move.

Sprint Punching back at the market with Cheaper Unlimited Plans

Sprint has been getting hit within the past year with bad business news and bad numbers. Yeah pretty much Sprint has been falling behind and struggling sense the purchase of struggling Nextel. They have been throwing tones of money into advertising with the NASCAR Sprint (Nextel) cup and all of their new ads. Finally within the past few weeks they have decided to take a new advertising stance. The first ad I saw was with their new CEO making a statement. Now they are pounding TV with new ads of their Cheaper ALL unlimited Plans. Your top 2 carriers in ATT Wireless and Verizon Wireless both offered unlimited voice for $99.99 a month. So in an effort to grab more customers and a larger slice of the wireless market, Sprint has released an unlimited Everything Plan for $99. Where ATT and Verizon only give you unlimited voice, Sprint is giving you unlimited Voice, Messaging (txt and mms) and unlimited net. This is actually one of the best moves Sprint has made lately. We usually see these types of moves from T-Mobile which has has made moves with unlimited data and messaging before to undercut the larger carriers. This should actually help Sprint grab more market share. Now if they will just expand their service area to cover more of the US.

Samsung Touchscreen Phone Coming to Sprint

Samsung SPH-M800 is comeing to Sprint. Everybody is wanting to get in on the touch screen action sense the launch of the iPhone. This phone is supposedly featuring a 2mp camera, which shouldn’t be bad sense Samsung’s cameras are generally good quality.

Palm Centro Sprint Smart Phone Video Review. It’s pretty, but its still a palm. It is a nice smart phone for $99 which is a cheap smart phone price. But Palm hasn’t improved its OS from previous versions, but like I said for the price defiantly not a bad deal.

Sprint has new smart phones comming Q4

Engadget Mobile has new promotional flyers of Sprints Q4 Smart Phone line up. Looks like big new things for Sprint. They are shipping out some new phones to back up all the hype and advertising they have been doing for data and business. The first CDMA/PCS Blackberry Pearl 8100 series phone, which this is the 8130. Also they have came out with a HTC Touch for Sprint which has HTC’s new touch flow technology.

Sprint getting their very own Blackberry Pearl?

According to Blackberry Cool it seems that Spring is releasing a Blackberry Pearl for their network featuring a 2 mp camera. We will see what all it is packing. BB Cool thinks that it will be somewhat of an inbetween the GSM Pearl 1 and Pearl 2.
